Knitter in Need Fundraiser

Silent Auction Items
Get your holiday shopping done in July and help out a "Knitter In Need"!  (Shhhhh....We won't even tell people that you didn't make the items yourself.)  We have a Knitter in our midst whose family desperately needs your help.  Bobbin's Nest Studio and Green Planet Yarn are stepping up to the plate and helping out our fellow Knitter.

Who are we helping?  A brief backstory about this wonderful family...

2 years ago our Knitter underwent some very difficult and painful surgeries.  She was in the hospital more than she was out.  Everyone worried and yet she put on a brave face and carried on like the trooper that she is.  Due to the time away from her job she was let go. As she searched for a job the medical bills rolled in and times were lean.  After many months of pounding the pavement she found a job that she loves.  2008 was not great, but life was looking up.

Last year her father-in-law, a machinist, was hit in the head with a piece of flying metal and almost died.  He had massive head trauma that resulted in brain surgery and he is no longer able to work.  He spent months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility.  He was able to move home, but alas, he's not the man they knew.  Ok, well, 2009 wasn't much better than 2008, but could it get worse?

Two weeks ago her mother-in-law, who was working full-time AND taking care of the father, suffered a brain aneurysm which also resulted in major brain surgery.  The parents are now both unable to work and function normally.  There currently is no permanent solution to where they are going to live during the healing process.

Medical bills abound, care is needed, and time, energy, and finances are slim.  "A Knitter in Need" deserves the Nest indeed.

About Our Event
You know how you are always asking us "do you sell your samples?"  Want to get one of those "imperfect" Jordana Paige bags that she sold at her Handbags for Haiti sale?  How about winning some private lesson time with your favorite Bobbin?  Now is your chance!

-Silent Auction-
We are holding a Silent Auction of our store samples.  What's on the list? Check out our Flickr pool, come in, and place your bids!  Bidding will end at 4pm on Sunday, 8/1 and the winners will be notified on Tuesday, 8/3.  Green Planet Yarn is also holding a Silent Auction of their store samples, so please check theirs out too!

-Raffle- We are also holding a raffle!  Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.  Winners will be drawn at random on Sunday, 8/1 after the shop has closed. The winners will be contacted on Tuesday, 8/3.  Prizes include, but are not limited to:
  • All Access Pass to Bobbin's Nest shipments for a year!-  We give you a call when any of our hot ticket items come in and you have 48 hours to come in and for first dibs on the goods!
  • $100 gift card to Bobbin's Nest Studio to be used for ANYTHING at ANY TIME!
  • 2 hours of Private Lesson time ($60 value) with your favorite Bobbin
  • 2 hours of Knitting Private Lesson time with the lovely and talented Jordana of Jordana Paige
  • "Sewing Basket" of Clover goodies
  • A set of 12 photographic greeting cards from Small Circles
  • A skein of handspun yarn from Small Circles
  • 2 project bags from A Needle Runs Through It
  • A skein of handspun yarn from A Needle Runs Through It
-Grab Bags-
For $2/bag you will get a mystery bag of yarn.  What's in it?  Could be cashmere! Could be sock yarn!  But there will definitely be enough for a small project.  (This is the high end stuff kids...we wouldn't pawn off the yucky stuff on you!)

In addition to all of this, we have two of Jordana Paige's imperfect Rio bags that we will be selling for $50 each, just as she did for her Handbags for Haiti sale.

"A Knitter In Need" Silent Auction, Raffle, and Grab Bag Events at both stores runs from Tuesday, 7/20- Sunday, 8/1.

Twice the goodies, twice the fun, so you will want to check out what Green Planet Yarn has to offer too!
