Holiday gift to Heifer International from the Nest

I am so thankful for all that I have, so I've asked my family, friends, and Santa to donate to Heifer International in my name. I am getting the store involved as well and am hoping to donate at least one "knitting basket."

Heifer International is an organization who's goal is to end world hunger by "teaching people to fish". They do this by providing livestock, plants and skills to people in 53 countries and 27 US states. Those people in turn promise to pass along the skills they have acquired to others.

I love the idea of their "knitting basket". Here are the details:

"This year, instead of another sweater that will end up in the closet unworn, why not honor that special someone with a Knitting Basket - four wool-producing animals that will give new hope to families in need? Your gift will warm his heart and yield bundles of wool for clothes, blankets, ponchos and more … handcrafted pieces to earn precious income for food and basic necessities.

Your gift of a Knitting Basket represents two llamas and two sheep — four animals famous for their warm, income-producing wool. From shearing to spinning, weaving and finally to selling woolen goods at market, the gift of a Knitting Basket will help struggling families earn extra income to break free from the grip of poverty and hopelessness.

Over time, as that gift multiplies and more animals are passed on to help others in need, entire communities will be warmed by the precious wool of a Knitting Basket."

At the Nest, our Christmas gift will be given to this worthy organization. We want to purchase a sheep, llama, and/or a knitting basket. It's all up to you! We will be donating 5% of all December profits and any additional personal donations to Heifer. You can help make this happen and help a family (or village) in need. Pin It
